Okay so I need some sanity checking here because I keep going back and forth on whether this is a real problem or just me being paranoid after watching too many car repair videos on youtube. My Q5 is a 2018 model with just under 80k km on it, still under what I thought was reasonable mileage for a gearbox to be totally fine, but for the past week or so I’ve noticed this faint whining sound that happens specifically when I’m accelerating from a stop and shifting between first and second gear. It’s not loud, my wife in the passenger seat says she can’t even hear it half the time, but I definitely feel a very slight hesitation right before the sound kicks in, almost like the transmission is thinking about what to do for a split second longer than it should. I mentioned this to my brother who’s had his 3 series in and out of shops for years and he immediately said get it checked before it turns into something expensive, which obviously stressed me out more than helped. I live near Muwailih Commercial in Sharjah and honestly don’t even know where to start looking, most of the workshops around here seem to handle general repairs but I keep reading that Audi transmissions especially the S tronic and multitronic types need someone who actually understands the software side and not just the mechanical part. I spent an evening searching around and found a page listing expert Audi gearbox specialists near Muwailih Commercial Sharjah, which seems promising since it’s basically walking distance from my apartment, but I’ve been burned before by places that call themselves specialists and then just wing it. Has anyone here had actual experience with a whining noise like this turning out to be minor versus a sign of bigger internal wear, and more importantly does anyone know if this kind of issue is something you can catch early enough with a proper diagnostic scan before it becomes a full rebuild situation. I don’t drive aggressively at all, mostly just work commute and weekend grocery runs, so it’s frustrating trying to figure out why this would even be happening this early. Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s dealt with something similar, even if it’s just to tell me I’m overthinking a normal transmission sound, because right now my anxiety is doing more damage than the actual gearbox probably is.
